Scholarships & Grants

True to our mission to foster the growth and development of pediatric cardiology nurses and to support the advancement of nursing science within our specialty, NPCNA is proud to offer the following scholarships and grants to our members. Take a moment to explore the information below.

Education Scholarship

The NPCNA Educational Scholarship is awarded  on an annual basis to an NPCNA member pursuing a degree in nursing.  The scholarship award for 2016 is $1,000.

Eligibility

  • A scholarship applicant must be a current member of  NPCNA who has maintained membership for a minimum of two  consecutive years. The applicant must be matriculated in an accredited program leading to a bachelor, master or doctoral degree in nursing, or related field.

To Apply for the Scholarship

  • Complete the Scholarship Application
  • Provide two letters of recommendation  (one must be from the applicant's nurse  manager) 
  • Provide proof of matriculation from the college program
  • Provide a statement including your philosophy of nursing, vision/goals for nursing practice and highlights of your most significant contributions to NPCNA.
  • Include a current curriculum vitae

Research Grant

The NPCNA Research Grant is awarded  on an annual basis to an NPCNA member who is a principal investigator for a nursing research study or quality improvement project .  Individual projects, as well as collaborative  projects involving interdisciplinary teams, multiple nursing units, or other institutions/agencies, are eligible for grant consideration. 

Areas of Study May Include

  • Improving clinical outcomes
  • Maintaining a healthy work environment
  • Creating a healing and /or caring environment
  • Effective use of technology
  • Preventing/managing complications

Eligible Projects May Include

  • Quality Improvement projects
  • Small clinical research studies
  • Patient education programs
  • Staff development  programs.

Funding

  • The grant award for 2016 is funded up to  $1,000.

Requirements

  • Principal investigator must be a member of NPCNA.
  • Funds may be used to cover project expenses, such as printed materials, supplies, or equipment.
  • Funds may not be used to pay salaries or institutional overhead.

Selection Process

  • Applications will be reviewed by the Research Committee.  The grant will be awarded upon recommendation of the Research Committee and approval of the NPCNA Board of Directors.

To Apply for the NPCNA Grant

  • Complete the Research Grant Applicant Information and Budget Form
  • Write a cover letter (one page) briefly describing how your project will impact pediatric cardiology nursing practice.
  • Provide letters of  support from two people who can address your ability to complete the project, such as your manager, mentor, or research adviser.
  • Include your current curriculum vitae.
  • Submit a 2-4 page Research Proposal, including
    • Title
    • Authors:  All authors and affiliations
    • Aims: The overall purpose, research question, or study hypothesis
    • Background & Significance:  Why this study is important
    • Methods:  The study or project design, including sample, recruitment/consent, data collection plan, and data analysis
    • Outcomes:  What will be the end points or what will be measured to answer the question
    • Conclusions:  The potential overall impact of the study/project and relevance to nursing or healthcare science
    • References:  APA format; the references do not count in the page number restrictio
